Prof. Dr. iur. Manuel Jaun
is a lawyer and adjunct professor at the University of Bern, where he has been lecturing on liability law since 2005. His research focuses on private law, comparative law and general law. Prof. Jaun studied at the University of Bern (state examination 1995), where he also earned his doctorate (2000) and habilitation with the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation (2007). His dissertation was awarded the Professor Walter Hug Prize and his habilitation thesis, entitled Liability for the Breach of Due Diligence, received the Eduard Adolf Stein Prize by the Law Faculty of the University of Bern and the Prize of the Swiss Society for Liability and Insurance Law (2008). He has completed study visits at the Université de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and at the European Center of Tort and Insurance Law (ECTIL) in Vienna. Since 2007 he has worked as a lawyer and partner in a law firm (German website: www.advo-jsm.ch) in Bern. In addition, he is a member of the Commission for Legal Affairs of the Swiss Cable Car Association and president of the Working Group Summer Activities. He is also a member of the editorial staff of the Bernese Lawyers Association’s journal and since 2003 he has been responsible for reporting on liability and private insurance law. Prof. Jaun is a member of the Bernese and the Swiss Bar Association.
